BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference released the 2025 Spring Academic Awards, including the all-academic teams and the honor roll. Union University's Carson Chavies (baseball) and Abigail Fernandez (women's golf) were voted to the GSC All-Academic teams for their respective sports. Sixty-four Union student-athletes from baseball, softball, and golf earned GSC Spring Honor Roll spots.

The 64 names on the honor roll are the most for Union in a single spring, with the exception of the COVID year, when several fall sports played in the spring.

Chavies, a senior from Collierville, Tennessee, graduated from Union with a degree in business administration. He led the GSC with a .400 batting average, with 66 hits, 61 RBI, six home runs, seven doubles, and five triples. He posted a slugging percentage of .612 and was on base at a .482 clip. Chavies was a first-team All-GSC performer, while also being named ABCA/Rawlings first team All-South Region, NCBWA second team All-South Region, and CSC All-District.

Fernandez, a sophomore from Windermere, Florida, helped Union to a fourth-place finish at the GSC Championship. She was also instrumental in helping Union to a pair of tournament wins this season, the first multi-win season in program history. She played in 23 rounds with two top-5 finishes, including a runner-up finish. She posted a scoring average of 78.0.

Baseball put 30 players on the honor roll, including Ryan Aljancic, Carson Chavies, Alec Hardy, Matthew Autry, Dyllon Barrett, Hudson Cepparulo, Carter Daniel, Caleb Davis, Colby Davis, Lane Evans, Ryan Evans, Sam Galbraith, Eli Jackson, Jake Jewell, Alex Johnson, Nick Jones, Kylon Joyner, Brodey Lentz, Brody Mann, Nathan Myers, Ethan Orwig, Elijah Ramsey, Grant Ross, Cole Smith, Will Allen Smith, Matthew Sureda, Cody Tjomsland, Noah Toney, Caden Walker, and Scotty Wyatt

Men's Golf placed 10 golfers on the honor roll, including Will Brown, Kip Patterson, Gray Campbell, Caleb Clifft, Jackson Hughey, Timothy Pinkston, Trace Robinson, Andrew Westmoreland, Matthew Westmoreland, and Jack-Henry Wise

Softball put 15 players on the honor roll list, including Emily Claire Felder, Kira Finkley, Alyssa Harville, Mallory Hildebrand, Morgan Jennings, Camryn Langley, Courtney Marler, Sophie Mislevy, Rylee Moore, Denise Pauletich, Brooke Puckett, Lexi Vircks, Hailey Sipes, Sarah Kate Thompson, and Riley Vaughn

Women's golf placed nine golfers on the honor roll, including Cecily Berry, Camille Burnette, Olivia Carroll, Abigail Fernandez, McKinnley Korte, Scarlett Lindgren, Aubrey Payne, Molly Pierce, and Brooklyn Verdugo

To achieve honor roll status, a GSC student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 of better out of a possible 4.00 at the time the conference announces the award and have competed in outstanding competition–not counting exhibitions or scrimmages, during the season the award is presented.

To be named to the GSC All-Academic team, nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better throughout their entire academic career at their institution and may not be a freshman or first-term transfer. The student-athlete must also be a significant contributor to the team. Other factors include leadership, community service, and extracurricular activities. Institutions are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken. All-GSC Academic nominees are selected jointly by faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors from within the league.
