BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference announced its 2020 Fall Academic Awards. The fall awards included only the men's and women's cross country teams this season due to other fall sports being canceled or moved to the spring. Union put 12 total runners on the honor roll, while
Abigail Bergquist earned a spot on the women's GSC All-Academic Team.Â
The honor roll includes student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or higher. The all-academic team requires a minimum 3.3 GPA, at least a second-year athlete, and must have made significant contributions athletically, and is a voted-on award.Â
Bergquist, a 5-foot-2 junior from Maryville, Tenn., was named first-team All-GSC in 2020 with a seventh-place finish at the conference meet. Her time of 18:08 at the GSC Championships was the fourth fastest 5K time in Union women's cross country history. Bergquist was the only runner on the 2020 GSC All-Academic women's team that was a repeat winner.Â
Eight women's runners for Union made the honor roll list including Bergquist,
Holly Blackwood,
Tessa Kaltenbach,
MaryKate Leatherwood,
Sydnee Meadows,
Jackline Ruto,
Anna Tankersley, and
Chloe Veilleux.Â
The men's team put four runners on the honor roll list including
Caleb Allen,
Samuel Barkman,
Michael Drury, and
Joshua Whitney.Â
