LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Union University men's cross country team posted a 15th place finish in the Gold Race at the Greater Louisville Classic. The 8K event featured 24 teams and 251 runners.Â
Union head coach
Tristan Kelly said, "Unbelievable performance from the guys today. They competed well against some tough teams. I think we are in a very good spot for the season so far, and I am excited to see what happens now as we gear up for conference in the next couple weeks. Probably the performance of the day has to go to freshman,
Jonathan Lewis. To do that in only your second ever 8K is absolutely nuts. He's a testament to hard work, discipline, determination, and the growing talent within west Tennessee."
Union's team time of 1:36:15 set a new mark in school history for the 8K, passing last year's GSC time by just 35 seconds.Â
Aaron Fynaardt led Union with a 15th place finish. His time of 24:18 was good for third all time at Union. He now hold four of the top five individual 8K times at Union.
Jonathan Lewis finished 61st with a time of 25:10, good for 14th on Union all-time list.Â
Joseph Hamilton finished 82nd with a time of 25:25, good for 19th in program history.Â
Luke Winkeman finished 138th (25:54),
Jude Sparkman 177th (26:24),
Anderson Mathias 229th (27:43),
Clark French (28:09),
Caleb Santhosh 244th (29:10), and
Riley Garrison 250th (30:51).
Up next for Union will be the final regular season event, the Choctaw Invitational in Clinton, Mississippi.Â
