BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference released its 2020-21 Winter Academic Awards including the sport of basketball. Union women's basketball sophomore,
Shanique Lucas, was named GSC All-Academic, while 14 Union basketball players earned GSC Honor Roll status.Â
The All-Academic teams are voted on and include sophomores and above with at least a 3.3 GPA and have had significant impacts on the court. The GSC Honor Roll includes all student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA at the time of submission.Â
Lucas, a 5-foot-8 guard from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, helped Union to a GSC West Regular Season Title and the GSC Tournament Title. Lucas was named first-team All-GSC West and was also named the GSC Tournament Most Outstanding Player. She was named GSC All-Tournament and NCAA D2 South Region All-Tournament. She was named GSC Player of the Week twice during the season and surpassed 500 career points this season. On the season, she led Union with 18.4 points per game. She added 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. She shot 48 percent from the field and hit 37 3-pointers.Â
Seven players from the women's basketball team were named to the honor roll. These included

Sally Howell,
Selale Kepenc,
Sadie Knee, Lucas,
Claire Maxon, and
Elli Pratt.Â
The men's team also had seven players make the honor roll including
Bjorn Asgeirsson,
Justin Debuck,
Dusan Djordjevic,
Ousmane Gueye,
Caleb Pearce,
Hunter Vick, and
Christian Williams.Â
