BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has announced its 2019 Fall Academic Awards and Union University was represented with 64 honor roll honorees and three student-athletes on the Academic All-GSC teams.Â
Making Academic All-GSC from Union were
Cole Asfour (men's soccer),
Meghan Delaney (volleyball) and
Abigail Bergquist (women's cross country). This was Asfour's third time being honored, Delaney's second, and Bergquist's first.Â
The 64 honor roll selections are the most for any fall since joining the GSC, passing the old mark of 63 in 2015.Â
Union put six men's cross country runners on the GSC Honor Roll including
Caleb Allen,
Ronald Ayabei,
Samuel Barkman,
Michael Drury,
Jaden Hunter, and
Joshua Whitney.
Union women's cross country had 10 runners make the GSC Honor Roll including
Abigail Bergquist,
Tessa Kaltenbach,
Amanda Leatherwood,
MaryKate Leatherwood,
Jordan Meadors,
Jackline Ruto,
Gabbie Stevens,
Anna Tankersley,
Rebecca Tankersley, and
Chloe Veilleux.
Union men's soccer put 13 players on the GSC Honor Roll including
Cole Asfour,
Elijah Barritt,
Felipe Firmino,
Mats Fredriksen,
Jacob Greene,
James Jackson,
Martin Knudsen,
Iudy Lopes,
Parker Miller,
Euan Morton,
Gavin Scott,
William Valencia, and
Casper Nyberg.
Union women's soccer had 20 five players make the GSC Honor Roll including

Union volleyball put 15 players on the GSC Honor Roll including

Courtney Ondrus,

Anna Claire Winchester.
Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. A total of 1,049 student-athletes finished with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and were named to the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
