BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference has announced its 2019 Spring Academic Awards and Union University was represented with 39 honor roll honorees and five student-athletes on the Academic All-GSC teams. 

Making Academic All-GSC from Union were Caleb DeMarigny (baseball), Haley Barnette (softball), Sarah Smith (softball), Braxton Rider (men's golf) and McKenna Montgomery (women's golf). Rider's Academic All-GSC award was the first for Union men's golf since becoming GSC members in 2012-13. 

In the 2018-19 school year, Union recorded the most Academic All-GSC team selections with 14, passing the old mark of 11 done in 2014-15 and 2016-17. The 39 honor roll selections are also the most for any spring since joining the GSC, passing the old mark of 38 in 2017. 

Union put 17 baseball players on the GSC Honor Roll including JD Fuzzell, Levi Schlesinger, Nolen Milton, Caleb DeMarigny, Charlie Ellis, Ryan Mets, Kory Pollard, Jesse Kelley, Brandon Maxwell, Zane Phillips, Cooper Thompson, Eli Thibado, Spencer Schultz, Cooper Bullough, Walker Adkisson, Spencer Woods, and Parker Shreve. 

Union softball had 12 players make the GSC Honor Roll including Haley Barnette, Molly McKelvy, Alyssa Ward, Kristen Pickens, Sarah Smith, Ashley Graves, Ashten Petty, Abbie Page, Parker Davis, Kaitlyn Kelley, Gabby Morris, and Taylor Manley. 

Union men's golf put five players on the GSC Honor Roll including Blake Karnes, Anders Rider, Braxton Rider, Cal Templeton, and Trey Tidwell. 

Union women's golf had five players make the GSC Honor Roll including Emma Korte, Ashley McCormick, McKenna Montgomery, Delaney Sain, and Ava Williams. 

Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. A total of 929 student-athletes finished with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and were named to the GSC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
