JACKSON, Tenn. - Union University has named
Jake Harrelson as the new assistant coach for the baseball program. He joined Union after spending the last eight seasons in various assistant coaching roles at Shorter University.
Harrelson joined newly hired Union head coach
Wes Timmons as both moved from Shorter to Union this offseason. Timmons said, "What a blessing! Jake and I have been together now for 12 years. He played for me at Shorter University, became a graduate assistant, then five years ago accepted the position as head assistant and recruiting coordinator. He loves Jesus, he is like a younger brother, and he is familiar with the GSC. What else could a head coach ask for? I am proud of him and look forward to building a culture rooted in Christ and respect for the game we love!
During his four seasons as head assistant coach, Harrelson served as the recruiting coordinator. In 2022, he was the second assistant coach and served as the graduate assistant from 2018-2020. He was a part of leading Shorter to five straight GSC Tournaments from 2019-2024, including a runner-up finish in 2022 and a third place regular season finish in 2021.
Harrelson said, "I am incredibly excited to begin this new chapter at Union. I am thankful to Wes for his encouragement throughout this process, and I am honored to have been selected for this opportunity. After much prayer and thoughtful conversation, I truly believe this is a wonderful fit, and I look forward to using my experience to serve the Union community and embrace this new challenge."
Harrelson graduated in 2018 from Shorter with a Bachelor of Business Administration. In 2020, he completed his Master of Business Administration.
As a player at Shorter, Harrelson was named to the Dean's List in 2017 and 2018 and was honored as a CSC Academic All-American in 2017.
Harrelson is the son of Jimmy and Robin Harrelson, and has a younger brother, Reed.
