BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference released its 2021-22 Winter Academic Awards including the sport of basketball. Union women's basketball junior,
Shanique Lucas, was named GSC All-Academic, while 16 Union basketball players earned GSC Honor Roll status.Â
The All-Academic teams are voted on and include sophomores and above with at least a 3.2 GPA and have had significant impacts on the court. The GSC Honor Roll includes all student-athletes with at least a 3.0 GPA at the time of submission that have competed in outside competition.Â
Lucas, a 5-foot-8 guard from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, helped Union to a GSC Regular Season Title and the GSC Tournament Title. Lucas was named GSC All-Tournament and surpassed 1,000 career points this season. On the season, she averaged 11.8 points per game. She added 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. She shot 51 percent from the field and hit 40 3-pointers.Â
Nine players from the women's basketball team were named to the honor roll. These included

Bailey Augustine,
Bethany Dillard,
Sally Howell, Lucas,
Claire Maxon,
Anna McCredy, and
Shylee Morrison.
The men's team had seven players make the honor roll including
JC Hawkins,
Mikail Simmons,
Justin Debuck,
Dusan Djordjevic,
Caleb Pearce,
Garrett Vick, and
Hunter Vick.
