Sandra Lewis Fitzgerald, affectionately known as “Sandy” by her many friends, graduated from Chester County High School in 1975. She attended Union University and from the beginning was a star member of the Lady Bulldogs Basketball team, playing all four years during her collegiate career. She was also a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity. Sandy is an alumna of the Union University Class of 1975, earning the Bachelor of Science Degree. Also a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Ms. Fitzgerald earned the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Administration in 1992.
Coach Fitzgerald was beloved and revered by those with whom she coached along with players and students. Sandy coached at Haywood County High School, Brownsville, Tennessee, from August, 1979 to May, 1980, when she came to teach and coach at Jackson-Central Merry High School, where she served for 22 years, until August, 2002.

Sandy Fitzgerald passed away on August 23, 2002, after a valiant fight against cancer. Sandy was married to Lt. Jeff Fitzgerald of the Madison County Sherriff’s Department for 24 years. The Fitzgerald’s have one son, Zachary.
