Rick Rudesill played basketball at Union from 1985-89 and has the unique distinction as being a part of the first father-son duo to be inducted into the Union Sports Hall of Fame (Dan Rudesill, 2013).Â
Rudesill finished Union with 1,508 career points, putting him in the top-20 on the all-time scoring list, currently at No. 18.Â
At the end of his career, Rudesill held the school records for 3-pointers in a season (94), career three-pointers (220), and career three-point percentage (.414). He averaged 14.5 points per game in the 1988-89 season. He was named the Union male athlete of the year in 1989, recognized at the Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame. Rudesill currently sits in fifth place in career three-pointers, fifth in three-pointers in a season, and second in three-point percentage.Â
As a senior in 1989, Rudesill cemented his success in his academic field as well. He earned the highest academic award given by Union Athletics with the Fred DeLay Award, while also earning the top award in his major, the Union History Major Award.Â
Since graduating from Union, he has continued his record setting and award winning career. He has won three Tennessee State Titles, 16 district titles, 11 state tournament appearances, had six Mr. Basketball finalist with two players winning Mr. Basketball. He has 888 career wins as a high school basketball coach, with most of those coming at Bolivar Central High School. He has also coached at USJ and is currently the boys basketball coach at Crockett County High School. He has won numerous coach of the year awards.
In 2017, Rudesill received the Union University History Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award. Rudesill played his high school basketball at North Side in Jackson where he was all-district and team MVP.Â
