Barry Bishop played baseball at Union from 1983-85 for coaches Linn Stranak and the late David Blackstock.

During his career, he was a catcher and designated hitter for the Bulldogs. In his three years, the team went a combined 117-34 including a third place finish in the 1983 NAIA World Series. That 1983 team is already in the Union Sports Hall of Fame.

Bishop is still the record holder four categories including RBI in a season (82), total bases in a game (14), grand slams in a season (2), and home runs in a game (3). One highlight in his career was hitting a home run in four straight at-bats, three in a row to end game one, and then homered in his first at-bat of game two.

His .412 batting average in 1984 ranks in the top-10 all-time best season average. He ranks fifth all-time in home runs in a season (14), third most home runs in a career (36), fourth most RBI in a game (7), and third most RBI in a career (202).

Since graduating from Union, Bishop has worked for Windstream Communications for 44  years and is currently the Senior Vice President, Field Operations in Lexington, Kentucky. Bishop is married to Union grad, Allyson Hobbs Bishop (Union, ‘85), who serves as Area Personnel for Bible Study Fellowship in Kentucky. They have three sons and daughter-in-laws, Danny and Jenna, Will and Allison, and Jay (Union  ‘17) and Anna (Union ‘17), along with six grandchildren, Barrett, Parker, Harris, Liam, Lily, and Nora.
