Pete Williams played baseball at Union from 1985-88, starting all four years. He came to Union after a stellar career at Hardin County High School in West Tennessee where he lettered in three sports.Â
Williams accepted a football scholarship to UT Martin, but after a year, he shifted his direction and signed to play baseball at Union for Dr. David Blackstock and Dr. Linn Stranak, both Union Hall of Fame members. In two of the four years at Union, his teams fell just one win short of advancing to the World Series.Â
Williams' career at Union began with three home runs in the season-opening 7-inning game. He then homered in the first inning of the second game, to give him four home runs in eight innings of play. He holds the record for home runs in a game (3), sixth for home runs in a season (13), holds record for runs scored in a season (82), second in runs scored in a career (216), and second in stolen bases in a season (49), second in stolen bases career (91).Â
As a senior, Williams posted his best season with .408 average and 13 home runs. His ability to hit for average, power, and his speed earned him MVP honors of District 24. He was also named All-Area 5 and NAIA All-America honorable mention.Â
Williams is married to Union graduate, Maria Woloshyn. They raised one daughter, Martha Kay, in Memphis. They later relocated to Alys Beach, Florida, where they currently reside.Â
