Joe Phiri played soccer at Union from 1999-2002 and left his mark all over the Union record book.

Phiri was a three-time NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) All-American, twice named to the first team and once to the second team. He was also named the NCCAA Player of the Year in 2002. Phiri was a three-time NCCAA All-MidEast Region performer. As a member of the TranSouth Conference, Phiri earned first-team All-TranSouth twice.

Phiri’s name is often listed among Union’s offensive records. He scored four goals in a match once and scored three goals in a match four times, four of the program's top 13 individual performances. He holds the record for most goals in a season with 24, while also scoring 16 and 14 goals in two other seasons, good for third and fourth all-time. His 65 career goals still rank No. 1 all-time at Union. He is fourth in program history with 10 assists in a season and third with 27 assists in a career. Phiri is also No. 1 and No. 2 in program history with 91 and 70 shots in a season, and No. 1 with 157 shots in a career. He is No. 1 and 2 in points in a season (58, 40) and No. 1 with points in a career (157). He ranks fourth with 43 career games played at Union.
