JACKSON, Tenn. - The 2021 Union University Top Dawg Awards were held Tuesday, May 4 in the Carl Grant Events Center on Union's Campus. The event, completing its third year, honored student-athletes at Union for their efforts in the 2020-21 season. This season was much different than any other as schedules, seasons of play, and rosters were constantly changing due to COVID.Â
The 2019-20 Top Dawg Awards were not held in person but were online last year due to COVID. This year marked the second Top Dawg Awards show to be held in person. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsors the event and was hosted by its officers, led by current president,
Alyssa Ward (softball), and past president
Kristen Pickens (softball). Other presenters for this event included SAAC Vice President,
Grace Roberts, Chaplin,
Delaney Sain (women's golf), Treasurer,
Harley Bartholomew (softball), Secretary,
Joshua Whitney (men's cross country). Also making a presentation was Union's Head of Campus Activities and Wellness, and Union's Strength and Conditioning Coach,
Jonathan Wilson. The background introductions were done by graduate student, Daniel Yurov.
SAAC President,
Alyssa Ward said, "Our athletics department, especially our student-athletes, deserve so much more recognition than anyone could ever offer. The Top Dawg Awards is just one way we can make everyone in the athletic department feel special. This year, we are so blessed to be back in person for the 2021 awards, and we hope that with this celebration everyone feels appreciated for their hard work!"
