JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's soccer team earned two wins in their exhibition matches this preseason. Union defeated Freed-Hardeman University 3-0 at home and then traveled to Rhodes College in Memphis for the 3-1 win.
The six goals during the preseason for Union were scored by five different players. Union graduated their leading goal scorer for the last two years in Honeye Heydari. So the Lady Bulldogs are looking to replace her scoring ability with a much more balanced attack in 2016.
In the 3-0 shutout win over Freed-Hardeman, Union got a pair of goals from newcomer Addison Dunn, a freshman from the University School of Jackson. Union also got a goal from junior Shelby High.
In the win at Rhodes, Union had goals from Kayleigh Patterson, Hannah Hewett and Krista Erlandsson.
Patterson and goalie Kristen Francis both return to the squad after making second team all-GSC last season.
Union opens their season on the road this coming Friday, September 2 at McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill. Union then plays at NCAA DI Southeast Missouri State Wednesday, September 7. Union's home opener is Friday, September 9 at 5 p.m. versus Tusculum College. Union GSC opener is at West Florida, September 16. Their first home GSC match is September 30 versus Shorter.
