JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to defeat Spring Hill College 3-1 Saturday evening at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Paige Blackburn gave Union the lead with a goal in the 56th minute. Spring Hill responded less than a minute later to tie the match at one.
The Lady Bulldogs regained the lead in the 86th minute when Rebekah Jackson found the back of the net. Irene Arias added another goal in the 89th minute off an assist from Jackson to secure the victory.
Union controlled the attack throughout the match, finishing with 26 shots and 14 shots on goal. Spring Hill recorded 11 shots with four on goal.
Arias led the Lady Bulldogs with five shots, including three on goal. Bethany Guinness added four shots with three on goal, while Jackson placed all three of her shots on target.
Union goalkeeper Antia López Rodríguez recorded three saves in the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs are now 1-3-2 overall and 1-0-2 in Gulf South Conference play.
Union will continue GSC play Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. against UAH in Huntsville, Alabama.
