Union men's cross country opens season with fifth place finish at UNA Invitational, Fynaardt second

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University men's cross country team opened the 2025 season with a strong fifth-place showing at the University of North Alabama Invitational. The 8K event featured 14 teams and 100 runners. 

Union's Aaron Fynaardt finished in second place overall with a time of 24:43. For Fynaardt, the 24:23 was the second fastest time in program history.

The Bulldogs finished with 127 points in fifth place, running a time of 2:10:30. This was the team's second-fastest time in program history. Host North Alabama was first (51 points) while two fellow GSC members, Auburn Montgomery and Alabama Huntsville, finished second and third, respectively. Union finished ahead of GSC members West Alabama (6th), West Florida (7th), and Montevallo (9th). 

Following Union's Fynaardt, was Noah Jinks in 16th place with a time of 25:54. Benjamin Blackwood finished 19th, Jeb Hamilton 41st, Stewart Brown 54th, Kaden Mosely 59th, Clark French 61st, Reed Steiner 75th, Luke Winkleman 78th, Miles Johnson 84th, and Kayden Patterson 100th.

Up next for Union will be Rhodes College Invitational, Saturday, September 20 at 8 a.m. in Memphis, Tenn. (Shelby Farms).
