CARROLLTON, Ga. - The Union University baseball team finished the weekend with a 5-3 win against the University of West Georgia on Saturday afternoon. West Georgia defeated the Bulldogs 6-5 in 12 innings in the first game on Saturday and 8-2 in Friday's game. The Bulldogs are now 5-22 in the Gulf South Conference and 13-31 on the season. West Georgia is now 14-12 in conference play and 24-21 overall.
A double from Dacoda Stone put him in scoring position, Nolan Milton singled to right center to score Union's first run. The Wolves scored a run of their own in the bottom of the second. Milton hit another single to start the top of the fourth and scored off a RBI from Hayden Lewis. Josh Frantz started the sixth inning with a single to third. Milton reached on an error right beforeLewis hit a three-run homer to drive the score up 5-1. In the bottom of the sixth UWG scored two last runs, Union won 5-3.
Frantz and Milton had two hits each on the game, Lewis with four RBI. Scott Shearer (2-5) received the win after tossing 5.1 innings, giving up three runs off of five hits with one walk. Walker Adkisson earned a save after pitching 1.2 innings, giving up only one hit with one walk and one strikeout.
In the first game Saturday, UWG scored two runs in the first inning and a home run in the second inning by Dansereau, put the Wolves ahead by three. A single up the middle from Zane Phillips scored Caleb DeMarigny to put Union on the board. Worthman hit a two-run homer for the Wolves to extend their lead 5-1. It was the bottom of the eighth when the Bulldogs fought back scoring four runs to tie the game up 5-5. A single from Josh Bozoian scored two, Bozoian scored off an RBI from Charlie Ellis. Jesse Kelley scored off of a wild pitch. The Wolves scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th.
Milton led with three hits, Bozoian with two RBI.
Ryan Mets started for the Bulldogs pitching 6.1 innings giving up five runs off of seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Logan Portis (2-7) took the loss giving up one run off of four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Neither team scored on Friday until the fourth inning with a single up the middle from West Georgia. The Wolves scored two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth. UWG jumped up 6-0 in the seventh inning. It was in the top of the eight when Union finally got on the board after Frantz scored Milton from a single up the middle. The Wolves scored two more runs in the eighth. A hit from Stone scored Union's finally run, ending the game, 8-2.
Stone and DeMarigny each had two hits. Stone and Frantz recorded an RBI each.
Brandon Maxwell (1-7) took the loss after tossing 5.1 innings giving up four runs off of 10 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Spencer Woods pitched 1.2 innings in relief giving up two runs off of three hits. Owen Natholomew finished the game pitching an inning giving up two runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Up next for Union is Harding University in Searcy, Ark. on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m.
