Before Union
Mets transferred to Union from Northwest Nazarene University where he played one season as a sophomore. He tossed 26.0 innings with 25 strikeouts in 13 appearances and five starts. As a college freshman, Mets played for Oregon State where he pitched in six games, all in relief with a 3.38 ERA in 2.2 innings of work. He missed his second season at OSU with an injury. Mets prepped at North Thurston HS where he played four years of baseball, four years of football, and one season of basketball. He was named All-Area Player of the Year as a senior. He posted a 1.75 ERA with 134 strikeouts in 72 innings of work as a senior. He also hit .308 with 18 home runs. Mets was named his team's MVP.
