CLEVELAND, Miss. - The Union University baseball team fell to No. 7 Delta State in conference series. Union dropped to 6-6 overall and 0-3 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State improved to 12-0 on the season and 6-0 in conference play.
The Statesmen scored in five of the eight innings played in the first game against Union on Sunday afternoon winning 7-0.
Nolen Milton and Drew Hill each had a hit for the Bulldogs. Logan Portis (1-1) took the loss for Union after tossing 4.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Parker Shreve pitched three innings in relief and Owen Bartholomew finished the game pitching .2 innings.
A RBI triple from Milton started the first game on Monday scoring Josh Frantz. DSU responded in the second inning scoring two runs of their own. The Statesmen scored three more runs in the fourth and three runs in the seventh to finish the game, 8-1.
Milton recorded two hits and one RBI while Frantz, Eli Thibado and Dacoda Stone had one hit each for the Bulldogs. Brandon Maxwell (1-1) gave up seven hits and five runs in 3.2 innings of work. Spencer Woods tossed 4.1 innings in relief, giving up three runs and four hits with one strikeout.
In Union's final game versus Delta State, neither team scored until the bottom of the fifth when Delta State scored three runs and then two more in the following inning. The Statesmen won, 5-0.
Frantz had the Bulldog's lone hit of the game. Ryan Mets (1-2) pitched four innings for Union giving up three runs in four innings with five walks and three strikeouts. Walker Adkisson pitched 1.2 innings in relief, giving up five hits and two runs with one walk. Scott Shearer finished the game for Union with no hits.
