Union baseball swept at #4 West Alabama

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 LIVINGSTON, Alabama- The Union University fell in all three games to #4 West Alabama this weekend. The Bulldogs fall below the .500 mark in the Gulf South Conference for the first time at 8-9.
Game One: West Alabama 10, Union 2
In the single game Friday evening, it was Union who got on the board first when Zach Wylie homered in the top of the first inning to left field for his fourth round-tripper of the season to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. After UWA evened the score in the third, Union regained the lead in the fourth when Zach Phillips came home on an error by the Tiger defense for the 2-1 Union lead.
The bottom of the seventh was when the UWA offense exploded. The Tigers tied the game and took the lead on back-to-back RBI hits, then added another run on a sacrifice fly two batters later. Then with the bases loaded, came through with a bases clearing double to left center and then added the  final run of the seven run inning with an RBI double down the left field line to give West Alabama the 8-2 lead. The Tigers sealed the game in the eighth with a two run homer to left that set the final at 10-2.
Union only managed five hits in the game with Zach Wylie came up with the only Bulldog RBI with his solo homer in the first. Marty Coursey started the game and earned the loss to move to 2-3 on the season tossing 6.2 innings. Joe Hudson came into the game in relief in the seventh throwing to just two batters recording the final out and was replaced by Andrew Wilson to start the eighth.
Game Two: West Alabama 3, Union 1
In the second game of the series and the first of the Saturday double header, it was West Alabama who took the early lead with a run coming in on a fielder's choice in the first inning. The Tigers added runs to their lead in the third and fourth innings with RBI singles that gave UWA the 3-0 advantage.
Union got on the board in the sixth when Nolen Milton came in to score after Zach Wylie was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that made the score 3-1. The Bulldogs got two runners on the the ninth with back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, but fell short in their effort to rally.
Dylan Moore was the only Bulldog with multiple hits in the game with two singles in the game. Teddy Christie started on the mound for Union going 7.1 innings giving up three runs on just six hits and recorded five strikeouts. Joe Hudson finished out the game tossing the final two outs for Union.
Game Three: West Alabama 9, Union 1
West Alabama kept their momentum going in the final game of the series exploding for six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers scored all their runs on four RBI singles in the frame for the early 6-0 lead. UWA added to their lead in the second with another run coming in on a fielders choice.
Union got on the board in the fifth inning when Zach Phillips belted his third homer of the year to left that made the score 7-1.
The Tigers put their final runs of the game on the board with a two run homer to right center to make the final 9-1.
Union only managed three hits in the game including the homer from Zach Phillips, while Zach Wylie and Nolen Milton each had singles in the game. Skyler Harrison started the game for Union but only lasted 0.1 innings before giving the ball to Matthew Pickard who finished the game for Union tossing the final 5.2 innings giving up two earned runs on eight hits. 
Union returns home to face LeMoyne-Owen on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Bulldogs took the earlier meeting between the two teams at the beginning of the season with a 10-0 win in Memphis.
