Box Score 4 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Union University Lady Bulldog Softball team opened their season in the Bobcat Classic on the campus of Georgia College. Saturday, January 30, Young Harris defeated Union 10-1 the first game and 9-0 the second game both games going just five innings. No. 9 Georgia College defeated the Lady Bulldogs Sunday, January 31, 10-3 and 10-1. Union is 0-4 to start the season.
Union found themselves behind early in the first game against Young Harris. The Mountain Lions led all game, getting things started in the top of the second inning with two runs, four runs in the third inning, and four runs in the fourth inning. The lone run for the Lady Bulldogs came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Whitney Christian singled to left field with one out, and advanced to second on a ground out the next play.
Madison Tennyson came to the plate with two outs and drilled a double to score Christian. Union was led by Christian and Tennyson with one hit each.
Hailey Cummings got the hard luck loss with 3.2 innings pitched, and
Kelly Rogers came in relief with 1.1 innings pitched. The Lady Bulldogs took the loss 10-1 in five innings.
Young Harris defeated Union 9-0 in the second game on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs had only three hits in the game, two coming off the bat of
Haley Barnette and one coming from
Emily Bennett.
Paige Taylor took the loss with 3.2 innings pitched. Taylor got one strikeout, but gave up six earned runs on six hits.
Cassie Mills came on in relief giving up five hits and three runs.
Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs dropped a pair of games to No. 9 Georgia College, 10-3 and 10-1, bringing their overall record on the weekend to 0-4.
Up next, Union will play in the Gulf Shores Invitational, February 5-7. The Lady Bulldogs first game started at 2:15pm against McKendree University, and then Southern Nazarene at 4:30pm.
