JACKSON, Tenn.- After securing the first two games of the series with shutout wins (3-0, 5-0), Union was unable to complete the sweep on Saturday, falling 4-1 to Montevallo at Fesmire Field.
Montevallo struck early with two runs in the opening inning and never relinquished control, adding insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to keep Union at bay. The Bulldogs were limited offensively, managing just four hits in the contest.
Union's lone run came in the fifth inning when Sydney Scott delivered an RBI double to score Chloe Jones, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and briefly shifting momentum. However, Montevallo responded with a solo home run in the sixth and an RBI double in the seventh to extend its lead.
Scott led the way at the plate for Union, going 2-for-3 with a double and the team's only RBI, while Mallory Hildebrand and Rylee Moore added the other hits. In the circle, Moore went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits, while Riley Vaughn closed out the final two outs.
Despite the game three result, Union secured the series win with dominant performances in the first two contests, outscoring Montevallo 8-0 across Friday's doubleheader.
Union returns home only last time for a midweek game against Lane College (4/22) before going on the road for the second to last series of the season. To keep up with the sqaud, follow @UUAthleticsSBÂ on Instagram and Twitter.
