MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University softball team dropped the road series at Christian Brothers University. CBU won Saturday's first game 3-0, while Union evened the series with a 9-7 victory in game two. CBU then took game three 3-2 Sunday afternoon. Union dropped to 17-28 on the season and 10-20 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 11-32-1 overall and 6-24 in league play.
The two losses, coupled with a win by Valdosta State mathematically eliminated the Lady Bulldogs from postseason contention. Union will close its season this weekend at Valdosta State.
In game one, Union outhit CBU 5-4 but failed to tally a run. Union got one hit each from five different players in the game.
Riley Vaughn took the tough loss, allowing just two earned runs with four strikeouts in the loss.
The bats came alive in the second game with both teams pounding out 10 hits each. Union got two hits each from
Camryn Langley,
Ella Joy Bragan,
Courtney Marler, and
Sydney Scott. Scott led with two RBI.
Emily Claire Felder (6-5) earned the win, allowing seven runs, only three earned, with two strikeouts, and two walks.
Riley Vaughn (2) earned the save, tossing a scoreless final two innings, allowing one hit, with two strikeouts, and a walk.
Game three was defined by one big inning from CBU, scoring three times in the second, and the Lady Bucs made that hold.
Rylee Moore and Marler led with two hits each. Scott led Union with one RBI. Moore took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits, with two strikeouts.
