Box Score 3 CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Union University baseball team finished the regular second season by dropping three games over the weekend at the University of West Georgia. The Bulldogs dropped to 12-33 overall and 5-23 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia is 21-24 and ends with a 15-14 GSC mark.
In game one, West Georgia tied a season high by pounding out 19 hits to open the series with a 9-0 win. Six players had a multi-hit game for West Georgia. The Wolves scored in each of the first four innings and had a 6-0 lead by the end of the fourth. West Georgia tacked on three in the eighth for the final. Union left runners on first and third in the second inning, their lone inning with more than one runner on base. The Bulldogs went down in order in five innings. Union leadoff batter
Caleb Warnimont had two of the Bulldogs seven hits. Jamie Sexton (4-7) picked up the complete game shutout, his first of the season. Ted Christie (0-8) allowed six runs on 13 hits in four innings. It was the first time since March 18 that Christie was removed after completing less than 6.1 innings.
In the second game, Warnimont opened the game with a single and advanced to second on a
Wacey Russell sacrifice bunt. Warnimont scored when
Jim Martin singled to left center for a 1-0 first inning Union lead. West Georgia tied the game 1-1 in the second. The Bulldogs regained control in the fourth scoring three runs on three hits for a 4-1 advantage. The inning began with back-to-back singles from
Hunter Smith and
Andrew Allen.
Michael Flores took first on a fielder's choice that loaded the bases. The score became 2-1 when Smith scored on a wild pitch.
Brad Royer drove in Allen and Flores with a single down the leftfield line that put Union up 4-1. Solo runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh by West Georgia knotted the game 4-4 moving into the eighth inning. The Bulldogs had runners on first and second with one out in both the eighth and ninth but were unable to scratch out a go ahead run. West Georgia got a sacrifice fly from Shaquille Jackson in the 10th inning for the 5-4 victory. Union outhit West Georgia 11-10. The Bulldogs are 2-6 in 1-run outings and 2-5 in extra innings.

Hunter Smith and Warnimont each had two hits for Union. Chris Burdette (2-2) collected the win after coming on in the eighth with one down and the Wolves trailing 4-3.
Derek Roof (2-6) collared the loss going 5.1 innings in relief of
Samuel Davis, who was pulled after issuing a leadoff walk in the fifth inning.
In the third game of the weekend, Union got on the board first. Smith singled to start the second inning and advanced to second when Flores was pegged with a pitch.
Andrew Allen laid down a sacrifice bunt to put the runners in scoring position. A walk to
Parks Flowers loaded the bases.
Kyle Bryan lifted a sacrifice fly into right scoring Smith for a 1-0 lead. West Georgia went in front 3-1 in the third. The Wolves tacked on two in the fourth and three more in the fifth for an 8-1 score. A three run eighth put West Georgia up by the 11-1 final. The Wolves outhit the Bulldogs 12-6.
Zach Wylie broke a season and career high three-game hitless streak with a leadoff single in the fourth. Cody Skinner (7-4) went the distance for his first shutout of the season and sixth complete game.
Preston Thompson (1-7) was pulled after allowing a leadoff walk in the fifth.
The season continues for the Bulldogs with the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament. Union will learn about their opponent and game time early this week when the bracket is released. The tournament is scheduled for May 5-7 on Olympic Field at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
