Box Score SEARCY, Ark. – The Union University baseball team posted a season straight win with a 6-3 victory at Harding University. Union improved to 11-21 on the season, while Harding dropped to 19-14 overall.
Union scored in each of the first three innings to lead 4-0. In the first inning,
Jim Martin starting the scoring with a solo home run to right field. It was Martin's team best fourth homer of the season. Union added a run in the second on a RBI groundout by
Wacey Russell, scoring
Andrew Allen. In the third inning, an RBI double from
Michael Flores and an RBI single from Allen accounted for the two runs to put Union up 4-0.
Flores of Union has now hit safely in nine straight games, while Martin has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games.
Harding got back into the game in a big way with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Union lead to 4-3.
However, Union tacked on two runs in the six and the pitching made that stand up to seal the win. Union got RBI singles from
Kyle Bryan and Flores in the sixth.
Chaz Wilson (3-2) earned the win with six innings of work, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Will Embry tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
Derek Roof tossed a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the year.
Up next for Union will be a weekend series at Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers University.
