Martin’s slam, six RBI leads Union baseball 14-4 over Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team posted a 14-4 win at NAIA No. 25 Freed-Hardeman University Monday evening. Union improved to 4-3 on the season, while Freed-Hardeman dropped to 3-2 overall.
 
Union's Jim Martin popped a second inning grand slam to cap a 7-run inning. His six RBI in the game led the way for Union.
 
Freed-Hardeman scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. Their lead was short-lived as Union scored seven in the second. The Lions added two runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 7-3. However, Union posted four runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to lead 14-3. A final run by Freed-Hardeman in the sixth cut the Union lead to 14-4. The nine-inning game ended after seven innings due to the run-rule.
 
Caleb Warnimont, Martin, Zach Wylie, Hunter Smith, Parks Flowers, and Michael Flores each recorded two hits in the game. In addition to Martin's six RBI, Flores added three RBI, while Flowers and Warnimont added two RBI.
 
Chaz Wilson (1-0) earned the win with four innings of work, allowing three runs on three hits with one strikeout and three walks. Will Embry allowed a run in two innings of relief, while Trae Bain tossed a perfect bottom of the seventh.
 
Up next for Union will be three games in the Trevecca Nazarene Classic Friday and Saturday, February 21-22.
