JACKSON, Tenn. – Following a celebration for senior night festivities for nine Bulldogs, Union was dealt a 4-2 men's soccer defeat by the University of Alabama Huntsville. Union fell to 3-11-1 overall and 1-11-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville moved to 10-6-1 and 8-6 in GSC play.
Kyle Simmons scored a header early at 2:56 to give the Chargers a 1-0 advantage. Simmons put Alabama Huntsville in front 2-0 with 17:56 elapsed.
Alex Pratt pulled Union within a goal at 19:55 putting a pass from
Pedro Silva off a rebound into the goal for a 2-1 score. The Pratt goal was his team leading fourth of the season.
The Chargers regained a two goal edge in the second half when Yuri Ivanov scored at 59:59 to lead 3-1. Simmons netted a hat trick beating Union goalkeeper
Matt Kesler at 74:58 for a 4-1 score. With less than five minutes remaining
Trey Scogin recorded his first goal running past Alabama Huntsville goalkeeper Brent DeSilva before guiding the ball into the goal for a 4-2 count.
Union outshot Alabama Huntsville 16-15. It was the first time the Bulldogs outshot their opponent in a match since Sept. 15. The 16 shots from Union are to date the most taken in a game this season. The Union futbol team received four yellow cards in the match with Alabama Huntsville drawing two.
Union returns to action Nov. 4 at 1:00 p.m. hosting Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) University in a non-conference contest.
