HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Union University men's soccer team turned in a strong defensive performance against the University of Alabama in Huntsville Wednesday night in Gulf South Conference action.
The Bulldogs held UAH scoreless for more than 72 minutes before the Chargers scored the match's only goal in the 73rd minute.
Patrick Schott played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded nine saves for the third time this season, once again tying his career high. Schott came up big in the first half, recording a penalty kick save, shutting down his left post and keeping the Bulldogs in the game. His consistency kept Union from conceding until late in the second half.
Christopher Cerda led the Bulldogs with two shots, including Union's only shot on goal. Charlie Peters, Freddie Westfall, Lewis Harding, Solomon Pela and Ashanie Kennedy each added one shot.
Union finished with seven shots and three corner kicks, while UAH recorded 18 shots and seven corners.
The Bulldogs are now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in GSC play.
Union will return home Wednesday, Sept. 30, to face Mission University at 4 p.m. at Smith Memorial Soccer Complex.
