CLINTON, Miss. - The Union University men's soccer team lost 3-1 at Mississippi Christian University Saturday afternoon to open Gulf South Conference play. Union dropped to 1-4 overall, while Mississippi Christian improved to 2-2-1 on the season.
Union scored first in the match with an early goal in the 13th minute from Georgia McDonnell. MC responded with three unanswered goals, starting with the equalizer in the 26th minute from Karim Gegg. Gegg added his second goal of the match in the 34th minute to put his team up 2-1 at the half. MC added an insurance goal in the 86th minute from Luke Nolan.
MC outshot Union 22-7 in the match, including 9-2 in shots on goal. Union led 7-4 in corners, while the fouls were nearly even with MC edging Union 11-10.
Chris Cerda led Union with two shots off the bench while five other players managed one shot each.
Patrick Schott played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs, recording six saves.
Union played another GSC road game Wednesday, September 16 at Delta State University at 3:00 p.m.
