JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University volleyball team posted a 3-2 (24-26, 25-13, 25-20, 21-25, 15-11) win over the University of Alabama Huntsville Tuesday night at Fred Delay Gymnasium. Union improved to 7-16 on the season and 3-8 in the Gulf South Conference. Alabama Huntsville dropped to 8-16 overall and 5-7 in league play.
The win for Union was their third straight home win dating back to wins over Valdosta State (3-0) and West Georgia (3-2) back on October 11 and 12.

Elise Seufert says, "I feel we are making strides and that is showing with our recent play. The fans at home have been great and we feel good about where our team is heading."
Alabama Huntsville started the first set with a quick 4-0 lead, but Union responded with a 6-0. The set was back and forth with 13 ties and four lead changes. Union led 21-19 and was serving for set point leading 24-23. However, three straight points from Alabama Huntsville gave the first set to the visiting Chargers.
In the second set, Alabama Huntsville led 9-8 when Union's
Hannah Huguley served 11 straight points for the Lady Bulldogs. Huguley included four service aces during that 11-0 run for Union, pushing their lead to 19-9. Union cruised to the 25-13 win to tie the match.
The third set went Union's way as well, featuring 11 ties and four lead changes. Union took a 20-20 tie and scored five straight points, the last four coming while Huguley was serving.
The fourth set was again played close with neither team able to lead by more than four points. The 25-21 margin at the end was the largest lead for either team.
In the fifth set, after neither team has led by more than two points, Union took a 10-10 tie and score five of the next six points to take the match.
Union was led by
Mallory Baker with 15 kills, while
Abbey Wainwright added 10 kills. Huguley,
Lydia Wright, and
Savannah Hughes each added nine kills. Wright led with 46 assists, while Huguley and
Morgan Morfe each boasted six aces.
Elise Seufert led with 26 digs and Wright led with five blocks.
Baker, a sophomore middle hitter says, "This team is building something special. We were very young last season and are still a young team this year. But our experience, communication, and intensity is continuing to get stronger as the season progresses. We love what coach is doing and how he is keeping us accountable for our play and is encouraging us along the way."
Alabaman Huntsville was led by Olivia Bauman with a match-high 18 kills and Kendal Knisley added 14 kills. Ashton Baker led with 37 assists, Stacey Sargent led with 31 digs, while Knisley and Alexis Deal led with three blocks each.
Union has three more matches in this current stretch of four straight at home. Union hosts West Alabama Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and NCAA DII No. 21 West Florida Saturday at 1 p.m.
