JACKSON, Tenn. — The Union University volleyball team split two matches Friday, closing the day with a four-set victory over LeMoyne-Owen College.
Union opened the day against UT Tyler at the Herrington Patriot Center in Tyler, Texas. The Lady Bulldogs battled throughout the match before falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-20).
Carleigh Charles and Elizabeth Gilbert led Union with six kills each, while Parker Goff added five. Charles hit .273 without committing an attack error.
Sarah-Kate Savage led the Lady Bulldogs with two service aces. Kylie Creech recorded 12 assists, Sam McHale added nine and Caileigh Collins finished with a team-high eight digs.
Union responded in its second match with a 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 29-31, 25-18) victory over LeMoyne-Owen at the Sturgis Physical Education Center in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
The Lady Bulldogs recorded 44 kills, 12 service aces, 10 blocks, 41 assists and 45 digs in the victory.
Charles led Union with 12 kills, while Gilbert recorded 11 and Anna Edwards added eight. Creech collected 23 assists and four service aces, while McHale contributed 14 assists.
Julia Stuible led the Lady Bulldogs with six blocks. Edwards added four blocks, while Gilbert recorded three. Collins led Union's defensive effort with 15 digs, and Gilbert added nine.
Union improved to 3-3 with the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs will continue play Saturday against Erskine College at 1 p.m. before facing Ouachita Baptist University at 6:30 p.m.
