JACKSON, Tenn. — The Union University volleyball team earned a four-set victory over Erskine College before completing the Reddie-Tiger Invitational against Ouachita Baptist University on Saturday in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
In their first match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Erskine 3-1 (25-15, 25-22, 19-25), 25-20) at Henderson State University's Duke Wells Center. Elizabeth Gilbert delivered a strong all-around performance for Union, recording 11 kills with a .400 hitting percentage while also contributing 14 digs and four blocks. Carleigh Charles supported the attack with nine kills and hit .381 during the victory.
Union also received six kills apiece from Julia Stuible and Carly Edwards, while Sydney Davis added five. Stuible made an impact defensively by leading the Lady Bulldogs with five blocks.
Avery Taylor and Kylie Creech helped guide Union's offense throughout the match. Taylor distributed 18 assists, and Creech followed with 16. On the defensive side, Caileigh Collins led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 digs, while Isabella Messer collected 13.
Union traveled across Arkadelphia for its second match of the day against Ouachita Baptist at the Sturgis Physical Education Center. Ouachita Baptist won the match in three sets, 25-14, 25-18, 25-13.
Charles, Anna Edwards and Carly Edwards shared the team lead with five kills each. Carly Edwards did not commit an attack error and finished with a .417 hitting percentage. Davis added four kills and hit .286.
Gilbert contributed four kills and accounted for four of Union's five service aces. Creech led the offense with 10 assists, while Taylor recorded nine. Collins continued her strong defensive play by collecting a team-high nine digs.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the second match with 25 kills, 21 assists, five service aces, 32 digs and two blocks. Union completed the tournament with a 4-4 overall record.
Union will return to action Friday at the Harding University Invitational in Searcy, Arkansas. The Lady Bulldogs will play Missouri S&T at 11:30 a.m. before facing Southwest Baptist University at 4:30 p.m.
