JACKSON, Tenn. – Continuing to play through mounting injuries the Union University men's soccer team forged into double overtime, but fell 2-1 to Delta (Miss.) State University. Union slips to 3-6-1 overall, 1-6-1 in the Gulf South Conference. Delta State garnered their first win of the season, improving to 1-9-1 overall, 1-6-1 in GSC matches.

Matt Kesler made three saves in the first half. Milos Boskovic, goalkeeper for Delta State had two saves in the half.
The Statesmen took a 1-0 lead off a corner kick. At 50:21 Amine Rahmani took the corner and lofted the ball into the box, where it pinballed off a couple Union defenders then settled into the back of the goal. Moments later Union responded with a corner kick goal of their own.
Alex Pratt launched a ball into the box that
Taylor Mayo was on the end of. Mayo put the ball past Boskovic at the 56:05 mark to tie the game 1-1. The score remained 1-1 after several near misses to force overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the two teams moved into the second overtime. As a Delta State player pushed forward he eased past Kesler, who sternly tried to deny the advancing position before a shot was made. Kesler was whistled for an infraction and Delta State was awarded a penalty kick at 103:26. Rahmani took the penalty kick opportunity and stuck the ball past a horizontal Kesler into the bottom right corner of the goal for the 2-1 win.
Union took 13 shots in the match, 12 in regulation. The 12 shots were the most in a game for Union since booting 15 shots Sept. 15. Of the 17 Delta State shots, two hit the goal frame. Kesler made four saves total in the contest, Boskovic grabbed three. Union attempted four corner kicks. Delta State had seven corner chances. The Bulldogs committed 22 fouls in the match, the Statesmen 11.
The Bulldogs seek to halt a five match losing streak on Tuesday. Union travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., to take on Ouachita Baptist University for a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
