SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Union University men's soccer team lost a heart-breaker Friday afternoon in the 2012 Quality Inn Fall Classic hosted by John Brown University. Union lost 3-2 to Oklahoma City University in overtime. Union goes to 1-1-1 on the season. Oklahoma City, now 1-1-2, is receiving votes in the NAIA preseason soccer rankings.
Oklahoma City jumped out to a quick lead as they scored in the first minute of play on a goal form Adam Black. The scored stayed at 1-0 throughout the first half. In the second half, Union responded with the first of two goals from
Guilherme Reis in the 51
st minute, assisted my
Alysson Mohl.
However, just two minutes later, Union gave OCU the lead back on an own goal to put the Stars up 2-1. Reis tied the game at 2-2 with his second goal in the 86
th minute to force overtime.
In overtime, it was another own goal from Union off of a deflection that gave OCU the win with just 10 seconds left in the first overtime period.
Union outshot Oklahoma City 19-15.
Matt Kesler recorded six saves in 100 minutes in goal for Union. OCU goalie Joe Shulbert had five saves, allowing just two goals.
Up next for Union will be a match Saturday at 4:00 p.m. versus the host John Brown.
