KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Union University men's soccer team fell 1-0 to California Baptist University Thursday in the National Christian College Athlete Association (NCCAA) National Tournament semifinals. Union, seeded third in the tourney, dropped to 12-4-4 on the season. Cal Baptist, the 2-seed, improved to 15-5-2 on the season.
Union will play Saturday in the third place match Saturday at 11:15 a.m. central time versus the loser of the Fresno Pacific (Calif.)/Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.) match.
California Baptist scored the game-winning goal with just over three minutes to play in the match. The two teams battled to a scored tied until the 86:39 mark. Alex Anderson took a cross from Carlos Figueroa and scored the goal.
Union was outshot in the match 12-7, including 9-3 in the second half.
Rainer Pires recorded three saves for Union in goal, while Joey Pacheco earned the shutout with two saves for Cal Baptist.
