MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Union University men's cross country team posted a fifth-place finish at the 2025 Gulf South Conference Championship Saturday morning. The 8K event took place at Shelby Farms and featured 11 teams and 99 runners.

The fifth-place finish marked the highest GSC Championship finish in Union men's program history. The previous best finish was sixth place in 2019, 2018, and 2014. The team time of 2:07:49 was also the best 8K time in program history, almost two minutes faster than the previous record of 2:09:22.

Aaron Fynaardt finished in eighth place to lead the Bulldogs. He posted a time of 24:16, which was second all-time in program history, missing the record by just six seconds. He was also named first team All-GSC.

"Amazing team finish!" Union University head coach Bailey Bell said following the race. "First top-five GSC performance, five men under 26 minutes,
the best time in program history, and Aaron with a first team all-conference finish. However, more than this historical performance, I am proud of the way these men have committed themselves to excellence and sacrificed for the solidarity of the team. They love Jesus, and they glorify Him with their gift of running."

Stewart Brown posted his best collegiate race to date with a 40th finish at a time of 25:35. A group of Bulldogs came in not far behind with Benjamin Blackwood in 44th, Noah Jinks 45th, Luke Winkleman 46th, and Joseph Hamilton 48th. Jonathan Litscher finished 83rd, Kaden Moseley 87th, and Reed Steiner 88th.

Up next for the men's cross country team will be the NCAA D2 South Region Championship, Saturday, November 8, at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida.
