CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Union University baseball team dropped a series to West Georgia on the road this weekend. Union lost the first game 0-4, the second 2-4, and the third 4-9. Union fell to 7-11 overall on the year and 3-6 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia improved to 13-3 on this year's campaign and 7-2 in the GSC.
In the first game, Union's
Grayson Swanson, Grand Ross, and
Canyon Pace were the only three to record a hit. They all went 1-3 with Swanson hitting a double. Sam Pointdexter started on the mound for Union throwing seven innings giving up four runs on 11 hits striking out six.
Ryan Middleton threw in relief throwing one inning allowing two hits.
In the second game, Union got on the board early as
Britt Netterville scored in the first on a wild pitch. In the Third inning the Bulldogs added one more run as
Carson Chavies scored on a double by Netterville. West Georgia scored four runs on five hits including a two-run home run in the middle innings (4,5,6).
Chavies led Union going 2-4 scoring a run. Ryan Evens started on the mound for the Bulldogs throwing four innings giving up one run on two hits and striking out four.
Eli Snelson and
Ethan Orwig both threw in relief giving up three runs on three hits.
In the Final game of the series, West Georgia came out swinging scoring six runs in the first six innings. Union rallied late and plated three in the eighth, but couldn't catch up as West Georgia scored three more. Seven Bulldogs recorded hits in this game Snelson led the team in RBI with two.
Lane Evans Started on the mound for Union throwing four and two thirds innings giving up three runs on five hits. He earned three strikeouts. Five other Bulldogs threw in relief.
Up next for Union is a non-conference matchup on the road. Union will travel to Searcy, Ark. To take on Harding University. This single game matchup will take place Tuesday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m.
