JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University baseball team dropped a home series to Christian Brothers University 0-3 this weekend. They lost the first game 0-2, the second game 9-11, and the third game 5-11. The Bulldogs fell to 9-20 overall on the season and 5-13 in the Gulf South Conference. Christian Brothers improved to 14-19 overall and 5-13 in league play.
In the first game,
Grant Ross led the team going 2-4 with a double.
Sam Poindexter (2-2) started on the mound for the Bulldog's, he threw nine innings and game up two runs on only three hits striking out four.
In the second game on Saturday, Union trailed early, but pulled ahead in the fourth inning as
Ben Smith scored on a single from
Carson Chavies. CBU took the lead back in the fifth inning but was short lived as Union scored two in the bottom half of the fifth to pull ahead 9-8. CBU took the lead for the third time of the game in the top of the seventh as they scored three runs. Union would fall in the bottom half.
Six Bulldogs had multi-hit performances in this game.
Ryan Evans started on the mound throwing an inning and a third giving up six runs on three hits. Five other Bulldogs threw in relief.
In the third game on Sunday, after giving up a run in the top half of the first, Union retook the lead and scored two of their own in the bottom half. That lead would turn to be short lived as CBU took it back in the second. Union continued to chip away at the lead but couldn't hold CBU from scoring.
Patrick Maxwell and
Caden Cutrell led Union with two hits.
Jake Keyl led the team with two RBI.
Lane Evans (2-2) started on the mound for Union throwing two innings allowing seven runs on six hits.
Mitch Sisk and
Eli Snelson threw in relief.
Up next for Union is a non-conference matchup at home. They will take on the University of Arkansas at Monticello. This game is set to take place Tuesday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m.
