Union baseball stays alive with 12-1 victory at MC

CLINTON, Miss. - The Union University baseball remained in the race for one of the final eight spots next week's Gulf South Conference Tournament. Union opened the must win series with a 12-1 victory at Mississippi College. Union improved to 18-22 overall and 11-13 in the GSC. Mississippi College dropped to 13-33 overall and 7-21 in league play.
Union scored first with a run in the first as Josh Bozoian drove in Patrick Music. Union added five more runs in the second. Music hit a grand slam, followed by a solo shot from Dorian Berry. The Union home run parade continued for the rest of the game. Music his is second homer of the night, 2-run shot in the sixth. Then in the ninth, Grayson Swanson added a 3-run home following by a solo home run from Blake Barrett.
The five home runs in the game pushed Union's season total to 58 on the year, moving the team into second place on the most home runs in a season list. The record stands at 70 back in 1998. Union just passed 56 home runs hit by the 2017 team. The 58 homers by the current team is the most by a Union team since rejoining the NCAA in 2012.
Swanson led Union with three hits, while Music led with five RBI. Luke Williamson (5-4) pitched a gem on the mound, allowing just one run on five hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks over eight innings. Walker Adkisson tossed the final inning, allowing no runs with two strikeouts and a walk.
The two teams will complete the series Saturday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.
