Union baseball splits with West Georgia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team split with the University of West Georgia in a double header Friday afternoon at Fesmire Field. Union won the first game 4-3 and lost in the second 8-4. Union moved to 7-8 on the season and 3-4 in the Gulf South Conference. West Georgia moved to 10-7 on th season and 3-5 in league play.

In the first game, the Bulldogs scored first as Dorian Berry scored on a double hit by Billy Beckham. In the third inning, Patrick Music homered to right field to put Union on top 2-0 after the third inning. Josh Bozoian and Blake Barrett hit back-to-back solo home runs to open the fourth inning, giving Union a 4-0 lead after the fourth. West Georgia's Collin Moore homered in the fifth to get the Wolves on the board. In the ninth inning, the Wolves cut the lead to just one run when Brody Wortham drove in two runs with a double to left. The Bulldogs held off the Wolves in the ninth to earn the win. Luke Williamson got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. Williamson allowed six hits, one run, with five strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work. Ryan Middleton was credited with the save

In the second game, much like the first the Bulldogs scored first in the bottom of the first inning. The Wolves answered back with four runs in the top of the third. Union made a push in the fifth inning scoring four to make it a one run ballgame. West Georgia shut the door holding Union to no runs in the sixth and seventh. Caden Cutrell and Music led Union with two hits. Britt Netterville led the team in RBI's with two. Sam Mcmillin started on the mound for Union. He threw 2.2 innings earning three strikeouts, he allowed four runs on three hits and five walks. Jack Rasmussen pitched in relief throwing 4.1 innings. He earned four strikeouts, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks.

Up next for Union is the final game of the series against West Georgia. This game is set to take place Saturday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Fesmire Field.
