Union women's soccer falls in season opener

Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Union University women's soccer team lost to the University of West Alabama 4-0 Sunday afternoon in its first game of the 2021 GSC Spring Championship Series. Union is now 0-1 on the season and in the GSC. West Alabama improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The game Sunday marked Union's first match played since November 9, 2019.
 
West Alabama's first goal came from a penalty kick in the first minute of play. The Tigers scored again fifteen minutes later and added a third in the 20th minute. The 3-0 score held at the half. West Alabama out shot Union 6-1 in the first half, including 4-1 in shots on goal. 
 
In the second half, the Tigers rounded out their scoring in the 74th minute to set the final at 4-0. 
 
In the match, West Alabama out shot Union 13-1, including 9-1 in shots on goal. Freshman Victoria Seymour had the lone shot for the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomore goalkeeper Rylee Iorio played all 90 minutes and logged five saves.

Up next for Union is a road game at Mississippi College, Sunday, February 28 at 2:30 p.m.
