Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Union University softball team split its two games Saturday at last minute Columbus State University Classic. Union defeated host Columbus State 9-4 and then fell 10-2 to No. 5 Young Harris College.
The classic was put together Thursday when the original Lee University Classic in Chattanooga was canceled due to weather. Several teams agreed to travel south to play games at Columbus State.
In the first game, Union scored first with three runs in the first. Columbus State scored twice in the second and twice in the third to lead 4-3. The scored stayed 4-3 until Union responded in the fifth, capped by an RBI double from
Kristen Pickens. Then in the seventh, Union added insurance with four runs. The big blow was a 3-run home run from
Taylor Manley, her first home run of her career.

Idalia Alarcon, and
Kristen Pickens led with two hits each.
Gabby Morris (3-0) earned the win with a complete game effort, allowing five hits, four runs, two earned with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Union played its second game of the day versus No. 5 Young Harris. Young Harris advanced to the Division II World Series last season, winning two games before being eliminated.
Saturday versus Union, Young Harris scored three in the first, one in the third, and three in the fifth. Trailing 7-0, Union got on the board in the fifth when
Harley Bartholomew singled, then stole second and third. She scored on a sacrifice fly from Alarcon. Young Harris added two runs in the top of the sixth to pull ahead by eight. Union kept the game alive with a run in the sixth on an RBI single from Manley. Young Harris added a run in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-2. Union was out hit 13-4 in the game.
Parker Davis (1-2) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 11 hits, nine runs, seven earned with three walks and five strikeouts. Manley tossed the final 1.1 innings, allowing two hits, one unearned run with a walk and a strikeout.
Up next will be two more games at Columbus, February 9 versus Bellarmine and Columbus State.
