JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team dropped the weekend series to West Alabama, 1-9 in game one and 5-2 in game two on Sunday, 4-3 on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs fall to 3-15 in the Gulf South Conference and 9-22 on the season. West Alabama improved to 7-9 in conference play and 18-11 overall.Â
In the first game, Dacoda Stone started the game with a double to right center, eventually scoring Union's lone run after Caleb DeMarigny hit him in. West Alabama scored four runs in the top of the third, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth to win the ball game ahead 9-1.Â
Brandon Maxwell (1-5) took the loss for Union after giving up nine runs on 12 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Owen Bartholomew finished the game for Union tossing 3.2 innings giving up three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.Â
West Alabama scored first in the second inning. Nolen Milton's hit in the bottom of the seventh ended West Alabama's Nick Rathke's no hitter, eventually scoring to tie the ball game. West Alabama scored a second run in the top of the 10th, Hayden Lewis responded with a RBI triple to take the game into the 11th inning. The Tigers scored three runs in top of the 11th to win the ball game, 5-2.Â
Ryan Mets started for the Bulldogs pitching 9 innings giving up one run off of two hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Cooper Bullough (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs after tossing four innings giving up four runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout.Â
In game three of the series, Stone hit a two run RBI in the first inning to pull ahead by two against the Tigers. West Alabama scored two runs of their own in the third inning, followed by another run in the fourth. Union tied the ball game up in the bottom of the eighth from a single up the middle by
Jesse Kelley. West Alabama scored their winning run in the bottom of the ninth.Â
Scott Shearer (1-3) took the loss for the Bulldogs after giving up four runs off of eight hits with one strikeout and four walks.
Walker Adkisson pitched one inning giving up one hit.Â
