Union baseball sweeps No. 10 Bellarmine with two ten inning victories

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University baseball team defeated No. 10 Bellarmine University in double-header 5-4 both games. Union improved to 5-2 on the season. Bellarmine dropped to 1-4 overall. 

This is the third straight last at bat victory for the Bulldogs.

Bellarmine scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Both teams remained scoreless until the Knights scored three more runs in the 6th inning. Nolen Milton hit a double in the 8th inning, eventually scoring on an error by the catcher. Caleb DeMarigny had an RBI single to score Union's second run. Milton hit another RBI single in the 9th inning to score Josh Frantz and Dacado Stone tied the game after scoring off a wild pitch. 

Cooper Bullough doubled to left field, he scored Union's winning run off an error by Bellarmine's second baseman. 

Parker Shreve earned the win for the Bulldogs after pitching five innings in relief, allowing two hits, four strikeouts and one walk. Logan Portis tossed five innings, allowing six hits, four runs with three strikeouts and two walks. 

Union jumped on the board early in the second game, after Milton scored on an error by the second baseman. Bellarmine scored two runs in the top of the 5th inning, but Union was able to answer with two runs of their own. It was in the top of the 7th inning when the Knights scored two more runs. DeMarigny scored off an RBI single from Frantz in the bottom of the 9th to tie the ball game. Frantz with another RBI single to drive Spencer Shultz in for the win. 

Spencer Woods earned the win for Union after tossing five innings in relief, allowing four hits with four strikeouts. Brandon Maxwell tossed five innings allowing six hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.

Up next for Union is Bellarmine, Sunday February 17 at 1 p.m.
