RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Union University baseball team fell 7-2 at Arkansas Tech University Monday afternoon. Union dropped to 6-3 on the season, while Arkansas Tech improved to 6-6 overall.
Union had won four straight games entering today's game. Union's last loss before today was a home loss, 16-4, to this same ATU team.
Neither team scored in the first three innings. Then in the bottom of the fourth, Arkansas Tech took the lead on a solo home run. Tech added a second run in the fifth and four in the sixth to lead 6-0. Union was able to avoid the shutout with a pair of runs in the eighth inning.
Nolen Milton scored on a wild pitch followed by an RBI ground out by
Cooper Bullough. ATU tacked on another run in the bottom of the frame.
Arkansas Tech out hit Union 8-5 in the game. Union committed three errors, while ATU had one miscue.
Union's five hits came from three players including two from Milton, two from
Caleb DeMarigny, and one from
Josh Frantz. Bullough had the lone RBI.
The Bulldogs used four pitchers in the game.
Ryan Mets (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks in five innings of work.
Sam McMillin tossed one-third of an inning,
Walker Adkisson followed with 1.2 innings of work, and
Scott Shearer tossed the final inning for Union.
Up next for Union will be the Gulf South Conference opening series at Delta State University, February 23-24.
