JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University softball team posted a pair of victories Tuesday evening against LeMoyne-Owen College. Union defeated LeMoyne-Owen 9-1 in five innings in both games. Union improved to 7-9 on the season, while LeMoyne-Owen dropped to 0-7 overall. 

Haley Barnett started the game off for the Lady Bulldogs in the second inning as she doubled to left center, then scoring off an interference by LeMoyne-Owen. The bats continued to swing for Union as they scored two more runs by Payton Mathis and Taylor Manly, Rosie Red and Sarah Smith each received an RBI. Kendal Kelsh scored in the third inning off a double from Ashten Petty and another RBI from Red scored Mathis. LeMoyne-Owen scored their only run in the top of the fourth. Smith scored Union's sixth run of the game in the fourth inning. Sam McDaniel scored in the fifth after Molly McKelvy recorded an RBI single. Ashley Graves scored off an RBI from Emily Bennett and finally McKelvy scored Union's last run from an RBI by Gabby Morris. Taylor Manley (1-0) earned the win after tossing four innings. She gave up two hits, one run and had six strikeouts. Graves pitched one inning for Union with one strikeout. Union had 10 hits, Smith, Barnett,  and McKelvy each had two. 

In game two, Barnett doubled to left field, bringing in McDaniel in the first inning. Bennett then had a single to first that brought in Barnett. The last hit for Union in the first inning came from Parker Davis who drove in Bennett. LeMoyne-Owen's lone run came in the second inning from Tierra Williams. Union had one run in the second inning from Abbie Page after McDaniel grounded out to second base. In the fourth inning Union continued to hit big starting out with a single to center field from McDaniel bringing in Page. Then Morris had a triple down the left field line, getting two RBI. The next run of the inning came from Morris after Petty had a sacrifice fly to center field. The last run of the game off a hit from Myranda Baliff to the left side, bringing in Bennett. Taylor Griffith (2-0) earned the win after pitching one inning. She gave up zero hits. Kendal Kelsh pitched two innings. She gave up two hits, one run, and had one strikeout. Morris pitched for one inning. She gave up one hit and had three strikeouts. Davis pitched for one inning. She had one hit and two strikeouts. Union had ten hits, McDaniel and Bennett each had two. 

Up next for Union will be a three game series against the University of Montevallo starting Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
