Union women top Lane 68-52

JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University women's basketball team posted a 68-52 win over Lane College Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union, ranked No. 2 in the WBCA Coaches' Poll and No. 1 in the D2SIDA Media Poll, improved to 9-0 on the season. Lane dropped to 4-8 overall. 

This was the second win in two games for Union over Lane as the Lady Bulldogs topped the Dragons on their home floor 74-48 two nights earlier. 

After shooting over 50 percent from the field and 3-point range Thursday night at Lane, Union struggled for the most part in Saturday's win. The Lady Bulldogs shot 41 percent from the field, including just 36 percent in the first half. Union was 6-of-20 (30%) from long range in the game and 20-of-24 (83 percent) from the free throw line. 

Union led 32-23 at the half and led by as many as 11 points in the first half. Union was finally able to put some distance between their opponent thanks to a 9-0 run to start the third quarter. A couple of layup from Morgan Martin and a 3-pointer from Tiffany Rechis sparked the run. Union led by as many as 24 points in the game before coasting to the 68-52 win.

Union out rebounded Lane 27-20 in the game, while Lane edged Union on the offensive glass 11-8. Union committed 13 turnovers and forced 15 turnovers from Lane. 

Union had four players in double figures led by Morgan Martin with 16 points and eight rebounds. Jada Perkins scored 15 points with nine assists. Tiffany Rechis hit four 3-pointers for 12 points, while Jada Smith added 10 points. 

Lane was led by Addie McNeely with 17 points. The Dragons shot 31 percent from the field, 24 percent (4-17) from long range, and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line. 

Union steps back into GSC play Thursday night, December 13 versus Auburn-Montgomery at home at 5:30 p.m. It will be the final home game until after Christmas.
