Before Union
Childers transferred to Union from North Dakota State University where she played three seasons of basketball. She played in eight games as a junior, averaging 5.4 points per game. As a sophomore, she played in 28 games with two starts while averaging 6.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. She played in 28 games as a freshman with seven starts, averaging 6.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. She was named to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll twice. Childers prepped at Dowling Catholic High School where she helped lead her team to one Iowa 5A state title and two state tournament appearances. She played AAU basketball for the Kingdom Hoops Elite, helping her team to the 2014 national title. She was named an ESPN three-star guard.
