Union women shoot well in 74-48 win at Lane

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Union University women's basketball team posted a 74-48 win at Lane College Thursday night. I was the first game at Lane for the Union women in over 25 years. Union, ranked No. 2 in the WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 1 in the D2SIDA Media Poll, improved to 8-0 overall, while Lane dropped to 4-7.
 
The game between two NCAA D2 South Region opponents started with a closely played first quarter. Union slowed moved out to an 18-13 lead by the end of the first 10 minutes. Union then exploded for 28 second quarter points to extend its lead to 46-28.
 
Union outscored Lane in each of the four quarter, pushing out to a 74-48 victory.
 
Union shot well in the game, hitting 54 percent from the field, 53 percent (10-19) from long range, and 83 percent (20-24) from the free throw line. Union committed 21 turnovers in the game, the highest in a game this season. Union outrebounded Lane 38-27 in the game.
 
Union was led by Jada Perkins with 17 points, Morgan Martin with 16 points, and Tiffany Rechis with 12 points. Morgan, the reigning GSC Player of the Week, added 12 rebounds for a double-double.
 
Lane was led by Alexis Harris with 13 points and Antrice McCoy with 12 points. The Lady Dragons shot 24 percent from the field, 21 percent (3-14) from long range, and 61 percent (11-18) from the free throw line.
 
Up next will be a second straight game between these two teams, Saturday, December 8 at Union at 2 p.m.
